US Presidential Candidate Enlivens Indonesian Festival in Somersworth

Sep 10th, 2019

The Somersworth Indonesian Festival (SIF) in the city of Somersworth, New Hampshire, United States (US) was lively. The festival, which was held on the road that is planned to be the location of the "Little Indonesia" area, was attended by more than 4,000 people, including two US presidential candidates.

Somersworth Mayor Dana Hilliard said the festival is more than a celebration of Indonesia's cultural, culinary and tourist arts, but also a celebration of the spirit of America and the City of Somersworth, which for more than 265 years welcomed and embraced immigrants.

"The plan to build the first Little Indonesia in America here is a form of our support for the Indonesian community who have jointly built and become part of Somersworth," Hilliard said, as quoted by Sindonews from a press release from the Indonesian Embassy in Washington DC on Tuesday (10/9)
